Dear Class of 2030,
Welcome to Wesleyan! I am so excited to welcome you to a place I hold near and dear to my heart. Twenty-five years ago, I was in your position, entering my first year at Wesleyan.
As a proud alum (Class of 2005), I can tell you that Wesleyan is a transformative place. I have worked at many universities, and none compare to the ways in which Wesleyan champions and cares for its students. It brings me great joy to serve as your Class Dean as you discover all that Wesleyan has to offer.
This summer, I will send weekly emails outlining the essential steps to prepare for your arrival on campus. These emails are intentionally brief, as the detailed information referenced will be covered extensively in the Online Orientation program.
Below is a monthly overview of what lies ahead. While this list may seem extensive, rest assured that each weekly email will provide clear instructions and support to help you complete these steps one at a time. Our shared goal is to ensure you feel prepared to begin your academic journey this fall, setting you up for a smooth and successful transition to Wesleyan.
Summer Timeline with Task Examples:
• June: Email & WesPortal setup; Academic Road Map Phase 1; Housing Preference Form
• July: Academic Road Map Phase 2; Course Pre-Registration; Health Forms; WesCard Photo
• August: Complete Online Orientation; Pre-Registration finalized; Housing & Advisor Assignments
• September 2: Arrival Day
Make sure you keep an eye on your inbox, as you will receive other important communication regarding setting up your Wes email and WesPortal accounts, as well as information about the Online Orientation module.
Online Orientation is required for all incoming students, please complete it by August 15. You can also follow the Orientation Interns on Instagram (@wes.involvement), where they will be sharing updates, tips and helpful information on a weekly basis throughout the summer. If you have any questions about Orientation or campus life, please reach out to orientation@wesleyan.edu.
Don’t want to wait? You can get started by exploring the Get Ready for Wes website and the Class of 2030 blog. Our Peer Advisors are also a great resource, and with so many of them available, you are likely to receive a timely response to your questions about all things Wes.
I look forward to meeting you in September!
Best,
Dean Newball
